About Us

Minnesota Quilters offers many events throughout the year, including quilting classes, workshops, and other educational opportunities for quilters.

The organization's largest event is The Minnesota Quilt Show which takes place in June. This show features hundreds of quilts, vendors selling fabric, patterns, supplies, and machines, as well as classes and lectures by quilting experts.

Minnesota Quilters also offers a year-round schedule of classes and workshops for quilters of all skill levels. These classes cover techniques such as hand and machine quilting and other fabric manipulation techniques.

Our History

Minnesota Quilters, Inc. was formed and incorporated in 1978 as a non-profit organization to promote quilting in Minnesota. This event coincided with the renewed interest in quilting that the U.S. Bicentennial generated. It was only a short time before Minnesota Quilters, Inc. became a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization. The charter members were 23 women with varied quilting experience and backgrounds. From that modest beginning, Minnesota Quilters has grown to an organization with approximately 800 members.

The first MQ-sponsored quilt show occurred in St. Paul, Minnesota, in January 1979. The annual Minnesota Quilt Show is now one of the premier regional quilting events in the United States that draw visitors, faculty, and entries from around the world. In addition, it is one of the largest volunteer-supported quilt shows in the U.S.
